I had to learn to slow down and really see the patterns within the chaos.\u201d \u2013 Florencia Echeverr\u00eda<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"blog-content\">\n<div class=\"article-content\">\n<div class=\"contentful-rich-text \">\n<p class=\"rich-text-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: center\">Echeverr\u00eda\u2019s practice focuses on site-specific installations that respond to their environment. Her residency at Awasi Iguazu pushed this approach to new extremes as she grappled with the sheer vitality and complexity of the rainforest ecosystem.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"rich-text-h2\" style=\"text-align: center\">Living Systems<\/h2>\n<p class=\"rich-text-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: center\">Rather than bringing materials to the forest, Echeverr\u00eda chose to work exclusively with what she found there \u2013 fallen branches, seed pods, leaves in various stages of decay, and the natural processes of growth and decomposition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rich-text-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: center\">Her installations were designed to evolve over time, incorporating living elements that would continue to grow and change after she left. One piece involved training vines to grow through a delicate framework of branches, creating a sculpture that would eventually be consumed by the very life it framed.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"rich-text-h2\" style=\"text-align: center\">Ephemeral Monuments<\/h2>\n<p class=\"rich-text-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: center\">\u201cI\u2019m interested in art that doesn\u2019t try to be permanent,\u201d Echeverr\u00eda explains. \u201cIn the rainforest, I saw how quickly things are reclaimed, recycled, transformed. My work here is about participating in these cycles rather than interrupting them.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"rich-text-quote\">\n<p class=\"rich-text-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: center\">\u201cEach morning I would return to my installations to find them changed \u2013 inhabited by insects, decorated with dew, partially dismantled by the wind. The forest was my collaborator.\u201d \u2013 Florencia Echeverr\u00eda<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"rich-text-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: center\">Documentation became a crucial part of her practice, as she photographed her installations at different times of day and in various weather conditions.
